Re: Makings for a new Stove

I like my tuna seared and cold in the center. Load this little baby with charcoal and get it piping hot and cook one piece and then slice. Cold in the center..............hmmmmmmmmmm!!!!that sounds interesting. I ate a lot of raw fish when I was in Sweden. Open face fish sandwhiches were quite tast...

Rumor has it that the cans are easier to carry out empty.

We'll have to work on it.

NPR story for stovies

Riding home last week, while listening to NPR, there was a segment on about Aprovecho http://www.aprovecho.org/lab/index.php and the work the organization is doing. http://www.npr.org/2011/02/09/133598036/engineers-hone-clean-energy-stoves-for-the-world Figured the stovies here would get a kick out ...

Re: Question

When I was web-surfing around a couple years back, looking for homemade woodstove ideas, I stumbled on this. It's decidedly not stainless, not of the quality found around this forum, but it cool enough to bookmark.

Re: msr hubba find

Ordin, you are indeed correct. For $5 I couldn't pass it up. I am not a tent hoarder. I hoard all types of gear. Stoves, tents, packs, ... I loan most of it out to people who are just starting out and donate much to the BSA troop I work with when a boy is in need. ... And on top of that you donate ...

Re: msr hubba find

Russ, While I haven't known you forever, I have indeed known you long enough, and camped with you plenty enough times, to know full well that you never sleep in a tent. You and that Claytor hammock are out in every form of Adirondack weather known to man and beast. Nice score on the tent, though! ;)...

Re: small wood stoves for "hunter's tents"

Ordin Aryguy , Nice link! Read this thread: you might find some ideas. Were you warm enough in the tent, then? t-shirt in the tent!? Did you have to use "tons" of wood to keep feeding that wood stove every hour? No "adjustable" air-vent holes under the door? That isn't galvanized is it? You don't w...

Re: small wood stoves for "hunter's tents"

As everyone has pointed out, when there's no thermal mass to retain heat the stove will require almost constant feeding. Even with the 12" diameter stove I built this winter, someone had to get up just about every two hours to re-fill the beast. Suggestions: redo the door. Make a hinged door with a...

Re: small wood stoves for "hunter's tents"

Small woodstoves can be done "on the cheap", but there'll probably be a price to be paid in durability and longevity of the stove itself... Unless of course you're DarrenN and can fabricate absolutely anything. Yep, still jealous. This is what a buddy of mine and I have been playing with. http://www...
