Re: New Alcohol Stove with shut-off valve

I've been camping in N. California. Lots of fires. HY 36 closed. Helicopters filling up right near my campsite in Smith River, and big jets overhead carrying retardants. Didn't make my new campsite lastnight because of closed roads. Had to sleep in a parking lot in my car. Been going cookless this t...

Re: Solar cooker

Yes, hope you can try it.....sounds very scientific. I like dual purpose solar stoves 8-) They've been doing this for centuries in India to make ice, according to an old professor I know. Heat moves by convection, conduction and radiation. If you insulate the water from convection and conduction, a...

Oooh, try coleslaw, the kind without mayo. Substitute some of the shredded cabbage with raw shredded beets, and use red cabbage.

Re: At-home cooking

The wife and I used to have our kids cook when they were young, about once a month. We'd take their favorite recipes and get it all prepped, then let the kids do the cooking, making it fun for them. They really loved it. Started simple at first, then moved to more complicated recipes. By the time th...

Pine nuts, one or two tablespoons Saute with olive oil, salt pepper and a little water to flash steam Both the brussel sprouts and pine nuts will start to b...

Re: At-home cooking

My wife is going through a vegetarian kick, but she still loves her gravy. Mushroom gravy Crimini mushrooms, sliced onion, diced some fresh thyme salt and pepper toss with olive oil Place in oven-safe saute pan and roast in the oven at 325-250F, stirring once or twice. It will release a lot of moist...

Re: At-home cooking

Just noticed this thread ... My home cooking tends to be simple. My small herb garden makes a huge impact on the final results- wish I would have planted it years ago. Here are some of my favorite recipes that take the least effort; Meatloaf ground beef salt and pepper worsteshire, about 1T 1 egg fr...

Are those snowfields glaciers?

If so, it isn't simply a walk-up.

Just snow fields. Glaciers are nearby but not visible. I don't have the gear for glaciers.

It's a walk-up, but you should have an ice axe, and spikes help.

Re: Spirit Varnish

DIY products are always appreciated more than store bought. I appreciate your insight into the utilization of sap as a useful product of many uses.
