Re: Buck Paklite Caper

Thank you. The bike was my Father's Day gift in 2008. Most of my camping is in state parks or Army Corps of Engineers parks. There are some nice privately-run campgrounds within a day's ride, also. Once I did the old rogue camping thing and hunkered down on the undeveloped side of a city park. Texas...

Re: Buck Paklite Caper

I totally agree on the parachord getting dirty. My plan is to incorporate it into the sheath. Then, if presented with a situation where it could be helpful, I would unwind it and wrap the handle. The description says that the grooving is for improved grip. But I like the striker idea. I pack everyth...

Buck Paklite Caper

On my bicycle camping trip, a few weeks ago, I took along a Buck Smidgen as my only knife (.83oz with sheath on my scale - $18 at REI). I got the Smidgen because I wanted a light, fixed blade knife with no handle (easier to keep clean). It worked fine for slicing up avocado. However, I got to thinki...

Re: Heineken Barrel Design discontinued?????

There's a convenience store, a mile from my house with a shelf full of the Heiny barrel cans. I guess I better go scoop them up. (Sorry to all the Penny-haters, but I love my Penny Stove.) :)

Re: Wicking around on the porch

I'm probably not going to switch over to a wood burner any time soon (never say never). Most of Texas stays under a burn ban for about ten months out of the year. But even more-so is that I love cooking with alcohol. I carried a Coleman F1 until about a year ago, when a buddy showed up at a campout ...

Re: Home "Brew" Percalator

One thing I did do to even out the water on top, a bit was to make the holes farther from the center slightly larger. I might take the top piece and just flatten the dip to see how that goes.

Thanks for the tips.

The tallest building in Dallas, used to be the Magnolia Petroleum Building and had the famous neon red Pegasus perched a the top. When Magnolia merged with Mobil Oil, in the 50s, the Pegasus became the official symbol for Mobil Oil (my grandfather was a neon sign maker and I remember watching him wo...
