Hot Candy Heater

Hey Dan, Not sure if you have seen one of these, but this is just such a cute little thing. I would totally buy one if it wasn't $65 freaking dollars. Sure it is worth that price based on the work it probably takes, but still in the "ouch" price range for me. http://store.picharpak.com/index.php?rou...

I live about 15 minutes from Ken T... we head down together... it is about 410 miles and 7.5 hours drive.

I will be there again this year - hoping I do not freeze to near-death like I did last year.

Re: Esbitmizer

Unless you are needing to sterilize water, forget about the whole "water must be boiling" aspect. Just a bunch of marketing crap that has come about over the years as companies need to define a base-line for how fast their stoves work. In the real world (*cough* out on the trail *cough*) a hiker nev...

Re: Esbitmizer

You must be boiling less than 2 cups? Or did I read you only get water up into the 180"s Yeah I usually only care about getting my water up to the [urlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiling#Levels_of_boiling]crab eyes[/url] level. That is more than hot enough for tea, coffee, or re hydrating food. As...

Re: Esbitmizer

I have had great success with the little 4gram esbits. I switched over to them very earlier this year and have not bought the larger ones at all. A bit less residue and almost never have to worry about carrying around a used esbit. If you can ever get some, you should give them a go.

Re: esbit adjustable simmer burner

You can see how the flame wants to lift-off at certain times. a slight breeze will blow it out in a simmer/reduced flame mode. I came to halt on this design because of it and also I had no way of incorporating a pot support onto it. I like one piece stoves. ;) Yeah I was sitting in my chair thinkin...

Re: Esbitmizer

Abela, how did you like the ease of being able to simmer with it? :D Pretty neat getting esbit to simmer. I have seen a couple of folks come up with systems to do that. Only time I really care about simmering is if I am in a base-camp situation, which are very very rare for me (maybe once every fou...
