Re: first homemade wood stoves vs. commercial MSR stove

with the right stove you should be able to boil 8 cups in 30 min. So I'm doing ok so far, then? Since my first two had times (combining the priming/pre-heating time with the actual cooking time) of 22 minutes (rocket version) and 29 minutes (hobo version)? Of course these were in the fireplace, so ...

No question that the shelf made a difference -- I didn't have it fixed in place very well and when it was letting mo...

Re: hi there! need advice on project w/ kid

Thanks, zelph. We can do what you said -- it might be a good "basic model" to see if more complicated things actually perform better. In general, we're pretty handy and geeky ... so that basic model might take too little time. Any input on a relatively simple one with the rocket design? He...

hi there! need advice on project w/ kid

Hi there, I just found this forum. Looks like there's a lot of cool stuff here! My son (8 y.o.) and I just came back from a backpacking trip that was great, except for one thing: we used a ton of white gas purifying water. We were using a conventional MSR stove while there was good alder wood all ar...
