Re: Alcohol don't burn in cold weather.

I was watching the start of the John Beargrease sled dog marathon yesterday here in Duluth and I was chatting with a guy who uses a HUGE alcohol stove to warm up water to mix with his dog's food. The guy said he put in two bottles of HEET at a time to burn it.
Giant alcohol stove.

Re: Snowy bike paths

Haha! That's great - skiing to work. We had a 24" blizzard here in Duluth a month ago or so and I saw a guy carrying skis along the street in the afternoon. I asked him if he'd skiied to work that morning and he said he had - - right down the street!

Re: Down Draft Gassifier Wood Burners

When I first got interested in DDWG stoves I did a few hours research on the 'net. I built a simple version using Ray Garlington's plans and then branching out from links on Zen Stoves I read some a very technical article on how this style of stove is used to heat homes in countries where raw fuel i...

Re: Alcohol don't burn in cold weather.

Are there any drawbacks to using alcohol at temperatures around 0 deg F other wise? I gave away my MSR Whisperlite (my former winter stove) and was planning on using my Bushbuddy this winter but would also consider bringing along one of my alcohol can stoves.
