Re: converting to alcohol

Hi dlarson, I have done extensive testing on all alcohols and if you can get pure ethanol then use it, it is the best. The problem with US denatured alcohol is that it has many formulas, from 35% ethanol content to 92% ethanol content and and many other additives some are combustible like Methanol ...

Re: Coffee Maker

I haven't found the proper screen yet... But the idea I have been thinking about is basically a screen disk with a rubber ring around it and a thin plunger handle. It would be sized to fit snuggly in my pot to push the coffee grounds to the bottom. So yeah, that would pretty much be a french press. ...

i'd say that we are getting de-sensitized to that sort of thing. it didn't bother me a bit. take a look at a few of the "reality" programs on the tv these days. :o
Nope didn't really bother me either. I've seen far, far worse things on the internet.

Sweet! If I really, really, really needed too, I could probably get into a machine shop but this would just be so much easier. Thanks!

Re: Price of HEET alcohol for stoves

I was just at my local Ace Hardware store and they were charging $6.50 for 32 fl oz of denatured alcohol.
Now, I'm not very good with math (but I still try) and as far as I can tell that would be about 20 cents per ounce.
HEET is only 12 and a half cents per ounce at $1.50 for 12 fl oz.

Re: converting to alcohol

to my knowlege marine alcohol is the same as denatured alcohol (ethanol blends). in Canada we can't get any type of ethanol based alcohol so i use methyl hydrate, which has a lower BTU potential, but works fine all the same. Daren..... It is my understanding also that marine alcohol is AKA "Denatur...

I finally got around to looking at the price of HEET.
Here in St. Paul, MN at my local gas station it was $1.49.
