Re: First hike

I used a simple cat stove but found it wasn't as efficient on the trail. Even 1oz of fuel didn't bring it to a rapid boil but seemed hot enough to rehydrate the meal. I don't know the pack weight, we don't even have a scale to weigh myself. There was a 30% chance of precep and it turned out to be sl...

First hike

I made it out Friday. Roughly five miles in five and a quarter hours including stops for breakfast, lunch, snacks, taking pictures and stuff. Although I was only out for the day, I packed a sleeping bag, an extra meal and 3 liters of water. I'm out of shape and was feeling it today(Saturday). I was ...

Re: Hunting season

My yungest son and I rode past the parking spot at the trail crossing today. It's just someplace to pull off along a dirt road. I wont mind parking my junk there for the day but if a friend goes along we might need to find a more visible area. I'd feel bad if something happened to his truck. Anyway,...

Re: Hunting season

Ok, I've changed my plans. I'll do a 6 mile day hike on Friday headed north to the PA state line. That will be the last day of bow season this month and the day before rifle.

Re: Down or Synthetic?

Well I found a much smaller sythetic rated at 15 degrees. It actually lays sideways in the bottom of my pack :D . It's a Backside (oh, I can't wait to hear the jokes  ) with X-Fibre insulation. It compresses with little effort to 8.5" dia. x 12" long in the included compression sack.

Hunting season

What do you think about hiking the AT on the first day of rifle season in MD? Would it be safe or stupid? I was thinking of an overnight trip next weekend.

Re: Down or Synthetic?

I think it was the size of an unc...
