Re: Why buy a wood burning stove?

"Just put the pot support on the ground and the burner inside and away you go.. " I use my mesh potstands in the same manner for the starlyte. Especially with wider pots. I gave my Kelly Kettle to my dad. I dont think he has ever used it. It does seem that a wider base wold make it a little more sta...

Re: Top Notch Jerky - Better Bullion

really good Jerky starts with good meat. I use (in order of preference) beef sirloin, round, flanksteak (cut across the grain) cubesteak, or venison cubesteak. If you are not trying to make it last for an extended period, then you can take it out a little earlier from the dehydrator. You also can le...

Re: Smoked Fish

The tea idea actually sounds pretty good. I wonder what our best local tree is for making a brew or smoking while green like that. We have tons of sassafras and used to make tea from the roots when I was a kid. :D If you make a campfire, then a green stick over the fire with a little salt and pepper...

Re: creative aeration

Yep, standard sizing runs rampant in container components. The std lid has 3 or 4 diff. dia. rings of different depths (both sides), making for many different possible ways to mate with the cylindrical cup. That being said I believe that people worry too much about having a ground protector. I like ...

Re: creative aeration

Beautiful craftsmanship! How are you creating the holes? Thank you very much. I use a combination of drilling, hand punch, and dremel I've been thinking about a cauldera type windscreen that would function for both alcohol and gasifying wood stoves . I think Zelph is making something like that now....

creative aeration

I have been experimenting with different configurations of aeration holes. Here are a few different patterns. :geek: My attempt at being artistic while enhancing performance. :D http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/cadyak/DSCN1102_zps30b58db5.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y120/cadyak/DSCN111...

Re: Smoked Fish

My Kuksa is applewood. I should be able to find it round here somewhere. I dont use it much. I do use pecan all the time though and it works great for wood fires and for smoking. I am not really sure about the shells. They are very oily and they produce a darker smoke. I have an old deep frypan with...
