Banks Fry Bake

I may have posted this one before, now. I like the Bank's Fry Bake because it is a lightweight Dutch Oven. 41CPFgsz4Zs I also use his method, except I use my simmer Fancee Feest w/lid. I also have used a "twiggy fire". It seems his top fire may be too much. I was taught Dutch Oven cookery ...

Firebox Stove

Steve at Firebox Stove has a couple of videos about baking in his latching lid "billy can" cooking pots, available in two sizes with two pans each available to fit each "billy can" pot. Here is one video: http://youtu.be/5iifx40dbOo He turns the baking every two to three minites,...

HMG Black Summit cuben fiber backpack

I like my cuben fiber tarp, by Hammock Gear so much I purchased a cuben fiber backpack. The HMG Ice Pack review by Hiking in Finland convinced me the backpack made of cuben fiber could be tough enough. I liked the HMG Black Summit for myself. My intention was to use it for UL gear. I worked out my l...

Cuben fiber

Is anyone else using cuben fiber for shelter? I have a Hammock Gear "Diamond Asym Tarp" that measures 5' x 8.5' and has a ridgeline on the diagonal. I have had it one season. It does stick, a little, if it remains packed in storage. I just noticed. I got it for my Grand Trunk Nano 7 hammoc...

Re: Lantern Stove

Our thrift stores strictly have only old stinky polyester clothing, not like the great thrift stores someone in the forum has. Nevertheless, I will be in the lookout for that heat-proof glass from a Coleman lantern, for example. Zelph, you have managed to stack twigs to burn without much smoke, righ...

Re: Lantern Stove

Fun concept! Do it better, zelph. The grapevine sticks definitely would be smoky. They are more of a backyard item anyway. Different wood burns clean: I like fruitwood, like apple or cherry. But ash or birch is more available. This puts me in mind of my "The Stump" stove I got from this fo...

Re: New Alcohol Stove with shut-off valve

We have the Blackfeet Indian "Hotshots" right here. The "Incident 1" fire manager brought in will not allow them to do their job. Period. We have had the famous Missoula "Smoke Jumper" school disbanded because firewood permits were no longer allowed. It was the firewood...

Re: New Alcohol Stove with shut-off valve

I can't believe I just read Missoula, MT and "NineMile" have a "Stage II fire warning" showing a fire danger guage sign "Extreme Danger" and allow LP or propane stoves with ON/OFF. Ain't them gov'ment bureau-rats just genius! Meanwhile, I have a severe "air quality...
