Re: Snow shoeing Upper Skyline Trail Mt Rainer

They are happy because they have boiling hot chocolate, not just semi warm out of a thermos. I use a Cannon powerShot SX1000. It's a dig cam but it takes better video then my JVC camcorder. But as always Youtube must compress the video and destroy half the quality. I will soon have my own photo host...

Snow shoeing Upper Skyline Trail Mt Rainer

I finally got my wife to go with my daughter and I up in the snow. It was supposed to be partly clear but like most alpine weather it doesn't always turn out that way. So instead it was 19 deg with 20-25 mph winds. The wind was from the northeast and very cold and dry. It was a good test of the wint...

Re: Diesel powered hand warmer

To further slow down the heat up time and store more heat I swaged two copper plugs down two of the chimneys. There is still enough room for good exhaust flow and now there is more mass to absorb some of the heat. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h151/BrentFinnigan/IMG_0856web.jpg I also added a ro...

Re: Diesel powered hand warmer

I need to draw up a blue print of it. There are two more mods I will make tonight before I head up to the mountains tomorrow.

Re: Diesel powered hand warmer

I took the copper heat sink plug out and shortened it up to 1/4" before putting it back. Back before I bored out the core for the bismuth/cadmium I remembered it didn't smoke. The copper plug was too big and too close to the flame and it pulled too much heat away to get a hot flame efficient flame. ...

Re: Heads up - Old photobucket videos are

I also hate their new format. We no sooner get familiar and comfortable with how something works and they go and change it. And they are always promoting the "go pro". Like I want to pay them to get frustrated and annoyed when I can already do it for free.

Re: Diesel powered hand warmer

I increased the heat sink/storage capsule so now the flame does not get hot enough to burn clean. At least with diesel so I may test kerosene and alcohol. So yes there is a soot build up but not enough to cause any problems. However the flame is very well isolated so it wouldn't ignite anything out ...

Re: Diesel powered hand warmer

I had to drill a few more air intake holes but it's fired up and working great. One more mod and it should be field ready, just have to wait for the aluminum. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h151/BrentFinnigan/IMG_0735.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h151/BrentFinnigan/IMG_0743.jpg I can see...

Re: Diesel powered hand warmer

I used to be a firefighter/EMT and all the engines ran on diesel so it brings back some good memories. It's the smell of work, liquid or combusted.

It burns almost horizontal but not completely flat.

The flame ice fishing auger sounds like a cool idea. Good thing I don't know any ice fisherman.
