Re: Hexapod Pot Stand

I calculated other combinations of tube and leg diameters for varying numbers of legs. The general formula for the inside diameter of the tube D is given in terms of the number of legs N and the diameter of the legs d. D = d * (1 + 1 / sin (180 / N)) The K&S Engineering / K&S Precision Metals tubes ...

Re: Hexapod Pot Stand

I have a 43.5 mm tall 38 mm diameter alcohol stove with a capillary strip around the inside, or I may use it with a CHS.

Re: Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone.

That cross country skiing looks easier than I remember, and I was not pulling a sled. :)

Hexapod Pot Stand

This is my hexapod stand. It evolved from the hinged stand with two "U"-shaped pieces. It folds flat. It can be assembled and disassembled without tools, to pack the pieces in a smaller rectangle. I cut and bent six "J"-shaped legs from 1/16" diameter music wire. I inserted the short ends into a bra...

Re: Split Cat Adjustable Alcohol Stove

I tried the stove with 9 holes open, and with all 17 holes open. The fuel never boiled. I never saw bubbles. The flame was taller with 17 holes open. The flame height cycles between taller and shorter. I think as the fuel evaporates faster, the flame grows taller, but the pressure inside the burner ...

Re: Split Cat Adjustable Alcohol Stove

I did not go near the lakes. Here are some steel cans of possible interest, plus the potted meat can. Maybe the Nestle media crema can? 3 oz. potted meat (1 7/16" tall, D = 2 13/32" = 61 mm, 2 19/32" diameter rim) 2.6 oz. Sterno (1 15/16" tall, C = 195 mm, D = 2 7/16" = 62 mm, 2 1/2" diameter rim) M...

Re: Split Cat Adjustable Alcohol Stove

I was camping in Chain of Lakes the last two days. I will try half throttle (9 holes open) and report back. There is an indentation in the Pirouline lid that exactly fits the potted meat can. It is stable. The Royal Dansk lid is not suitable because it does not have the same indentation, and would e...

Split Cat Adjustable Alcohol Stove

I made an adjustable stove yesterday. It weighs 0.8 ounces, is 2 11/16" in diameter, stands 2 5/8" tall, and packs away 2 1/16" tall. There are 17 air holes. Any number from 0 to 17 can be blocked, for 18 heat settings. With all holes blocked, it has a small flame, about 1 inch high. With all holes ...

Re: Adjustable Capillary Stove

Someone should Make Better Design Choices. Any idea what keeps that type of stove from overflowing? Fuel can be added to a lit stove with a squeeze bottle, plastic tubing, and a long metal tube. The plastic tubing connects the metal tube to the squeeze bottle. I saw someone do this in a video. I hav...

Re: Adjustable Capillary Stove

I managed about 1 1/4" of capillary action today with a strip of aluminum on the inside of a 2 5/8" diameter steel can. I put a 2" wide strip in the bottom of the can, burned some fuel, removed the strip, and saw traces of dye that had migrated up the strip. The dye is deposited as the fuel vaporize...
