Re: Solar cooker

Yeah, I found a ink on "solar canning", but opted not to post it here. I just can't believe it's been done enough to have any reliable data on the safety of it. It's one thing to cook a meal and eat it hot, another to eat in six months later. I like the concept, but without a reliable way ...

Re: Wool yarn from the backs of the sheep

What dimensions and weight should one be? That sort of depends on the wool and the diameter of the yarn you want, though there's a wide range of sizes that will work, maybe just not as fast a perfectly sized one. I'd start with a top-whorl spindle thats maybe 3-4" in diameter and not too heavy...

Re: Wool yarn from the backs of the sheep

I thought of a story some might dig. A neighbor of mine spins and has a son who is a guide in alaska. He guided the national geographic crew when they did a special on muskox, so he had the opportunity to gather a bunch of the underfur they shed in the spring, and gave it to her. She cleaned it, car...

Re: Wool yarn from the backs of the sheep

WOW! Zelph, if you see those guys around, tell them they are invited to my place anytime. We'll get that wool used up!

Glad to see your purchase, too. Can't wait to see what you make! Have you got a drop spindle yet? Are you planning on making one? Can I be of any help in that regard?

Re: GiardiaMyth-Buster

I once spent an entire summer camping in the Lost Creek Wilderness Area in CO, drinking untreated stream water with no ill effects. That was when I was young and reckless, though. Around the same time I got engaged to a girl I'd known for 3 weeks... I don't think I'll do either again, even though I ...

Re: Wool yarn from the backs of the sheep

Zelph- given your interests, you might consider making a felt pot-cozy. It could double as a potholder.

Solar cooker

I made this solar cooker from plans I found here: http://solarcooking.wikia.com/wiki/Fun-Panel Here's mine: IMG_3998.JPG This one is cardboard surfaced with aluminum tape (home depot), but I made a second one from corrugated plastic (home depot) surfaced with mylar decals from an auto parts store. B...

Re: Wool yarn from the backs of the sheep
