Re: At-home cooking

I sure hope nobody is annoyed by these many posts lately. It's a good season for cooking wild plants, and I am kind of using these post as an excuse to document some recipes I like. Here's one that never fails to impress, provided the cattails are young and tender. I missed the season for the cattai...

Re: At-home cooking

I took my 8 month old son out irrigating with me this morning in his off-road stroller. He had fun, I got muddy and all was well. We brought home some beautiful curly dock leaves and he helped me strategize on how to use them. In the end we stumbled on one of those holy-grail cooking combinations th...

Re: At-home cooking

Good to have you back, Zelph! Last year was pretty wet, and we had some geological events that changed up how the springs flow around here: http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=83883 We still miss the three men who disappeared that day, very much. The result was that our meadows all had...

Re: At-home cooking

Irrigation season started today, with a bang. One of my neighbors neglected to clean his ditches, so water was pouring into my field. I managed to plug the problem, then decided to take my water out of the ditch to lessen the load on my patch. While I was out, I realized that the volume of water goi...

Re: Solar cooker

Nice find ! :D Good luck on the cooking bag. A quick link and I'll be back later. I have a "bell jar" What's up with the bell jar ? Vacuum cooker ? Sous-Vide style ? :? That's my question, too. Are you suggesting a cooking surface with a bell jar on it, then the air withdrawn from under t...

Re: Solar cooker

That's a great idea, thanks. I found DIY plans for the wonderbag. Maybe I can talk my mom into pausing in her quilting long enough to make me one... I'll promise dinner :P I can sit on it when I'm not cooking

Re: Solar cooker

Zelph, thanks. Something else that I WANT. Can't afford it, though. Yeah, thanks alot :x I gotta sell some hay... I lay awake at night designing my own ripoff. Does that make me a bad person? Mr Heater- good thinking. Again, can't afford it right now, but I have a few bales of wool that needs...

Re: Solar cooker

Now that's an interesting design. Looks like it would be kind of fragile and hard to clean inside. It wouldn't take much to build a cooker like that. The tubes are a lot cheaper than the finished product. :) Yeah, I was thinking that, too. There's a 2 year, no-questions-asked warranty on the tube, ...

Re: Solar cooker

I have been avoiding checking out any of the advertising for the Go Sun stove Zelph pointed out. I can't afford it, but my sinful, covetous heart just won't let me rest once I see something I want... This video is kind of fun, and seems like a reasonable test of the equipment, with music and drones ...

Re: Solar cooker

It would be nice if you could fasten it to the ground and cover with a vinyl cover like what they use for BBQ grilles. Solar irradiation on the surface of the food might just cook more efficiently than solar irradiation on metal. What I am imagining is a pyrex casserole dish with food in it and no ...
