Same site on foraging for food off trail:

Wild ginger is a good plant to refresh your mouth with a drop of juice from a stem. Give it a try :)

Thanks so much for the kind words. My blog is definitely a labor of love! I found this site from the stats of the link backs to the forum, so thanks for mentioning my blog here, since it made me find this forum!!

I just finished a rather lengthy series of posts on DIY Trail Food from start to finish - about 6 steps in all for someone who has no idea where to start with FBC and wants to eat healthier on the trail! http://demeters-dish.blogspot.com/2014/11/diy-trail-food-eating-healthier-and.html

I found the six steps.

I could not navigate to the quinoa recipe you mentioned at whiteblaze.net forum.

I did a quick check on the wild foods page and inspired me to look forward to some spring time foraging. Wild Ginger abounds in the local woodlands. Plenty of garlic mustard also

glad your here :D

You definitely don't have to wait until spring! The winter greens are coming up like crazy around here, especially chickweed. That's why I started the FB page so people can post what is coming up now. It's really new, but hope to post something every week or so...

I found some of these last month while on an adventure in southern Illinois...Physalis, husk tomatoes or ground cherry.

Come spring I'll look for Arrowroot in the waters around some known locations. Maybe try some cattails and lily pad blossoms.
