Skunk Cabbage comes up through thin ice early in the spring. I'll have to read up on it's food value and the howto's of preparing. Marsh Marigolds also sounds like a good candidate. I know where there are some Kentucky coffee trees that still have seed pods hanging from them to collect asap to try the roasting of the seeds. I've germinated the seeds but never roasted and ground them to try as coffee substitute. Gonna give it a try
