Found this video on youtube which shows how to cut top of another can for use as pot ring. Thought it was a nice DIY option ...

Nice idea for adding rigidity. I would assume the pressure alone would keep the ring in place without rolling the inner lip inward and down. As a matter in fact, I think the inner lip would be bennificial for a DIY pot lid to sit on ;)

Someone mentioned before that having an inner ring verses an outer ring allows an uncleanable point for scum to collect inside a "cookpot".If it's just a water boiler,no problem.Otherwise it's not a bad idea.It appears he has no plans to make it removable for cleaning under later.
I know..I'm raining on someone's parade again..

Again..read my signature.. ..It's all suggestions to help a worthy cause.

I agree that the inner lip will gather something and eventually give you the hershey squirts or montezumas revenge. The ledge would be nice for a lid to rest on as RR stated.

There are airborne germs waiting to attach themselves to a drop of water so as to have a place to multiply/grow. After the boiling water is emptied there remains water in you cup/pot. The inside of your pot is still wet and exposed to the air. There are possiblilities. Only one in ten pots will grow organisms. Will you be the tenth ;)

I suggest you use your foster pot in it's original condition state.

And then again, it's necessary we try something new :D Let's play!!!

Be prepared for cuts and nicks. As you can see in the video, he has been cut no doubt. Have the bandaids ready.
