that, what you have there, is a Vermont Tooth Puller. pretty smart design actually, 'cept for the fact it can only pull front teeth. the metal part is hooked under the tooth and the wooden part is placed under the jaw for an upper tooth or on top of the head for a lower tooth. the mechanical advantage generated by the devise will lift even the most stubborn tooth.

i cannot confirm this with any evidence but it was probably invented by a Mennonite. very fond of mechanical advantages, are the Mennonites; as evidenced by devises such as the Farriers Hoist.

It is a "pick-a-roo" for turning lengths of timber. It is usually used by the people cutting and handling pulp wood for the paper industry.
