Not yet, keep going. It's a specialty tool. Only known to be used prior to the invention of the computer.

Looks like you can insert a loop of wire and cut out a staple. A staple maker.

Could it be a specialized punch for either file cards or file folders? After following this thread for a couple of days I thought that all the good guesses were taken. The computer clue threw all of them out the window!

In the days before the computer, text was composed on typewriters. Little arms that swung through the air and hit a piece of ribbon and made an imprint on the paper. The arms that swung up were attached to little wires that were bent a certain way to engage into the little hole on the arm. Thois little wires had to be replace on site when they broke and this tool was used to make the bend in the wire. Different brand machines had different length wires and so they were custom made on site.This tool was used to make the bend in the wire. This is what the wire looked like for those that have not seen the inner workings of a typewriter:

I'd still use it for putting ground sleeves on wires and crimping them down!Looks like it would be perfect for that..Appears you get off scott-free this week! ;)
