Zelph, I need a stove!

Postby Tobit » Mon Jan 07, 2008 4:19 pm

Zelph, having a hard time deciding what kind of stove I want for my new gear for this year. There are far too many options out there today.

My requirements:

Very lightweight
Small and be able to fit inside an MSR .85L kettle
Trail friendly, proven design for boiling 2.5 to 3 cups on 3 to 4 day trips from sea level to 4000 feet

Should I just go with a pepsi can stove?

Thanks

- JT

Well Tobit you just open up a can of worms all us on here make alcohol stoves there are all good. Its hard to pick one but most stoves will boil 16. oz. water in 5 to 7 min. on 1/2 oz. fuel. Best thing if you cant make one i am sure one of us will sell you one at a good price learn to use at home first just get good at it at home. Also check out the stove of the mouth on here.If you go to e bay and find one come back and we can let you know adout good or bad. Wecome to the forum. :D

oops, that's my problem.. they all appear to be good. I definitely don't have the tools though for my own custom work. I'm currently looking at the top jet pepsi can stoves that mechanic mike sells on eBay. I also like his combination windscreen/pot stand for top jet pepsi cans.

I would recomend you get a wick style stove like the "FancyFeast" stove. It has an integral potstand and lights easily in cold weather no primer pan needed.

I'll make some up and make them available by the end of the week. $10.00 that includes shipping and handling. The reason being I really like how this little stove burns at a steady rate and needs no separate pot stand.

Oops!!!!!Producing a few prototypes is one thing. doing production pieces is a little different

Only two will be available at the above stated price, one for tobit and one for Pure Mehem.

Haste makes waste. Takes more time than I thought to make one. Availability of globe screens is dwindling

I'll have to redesign to make them available at that price, Hmmmm!!!!!!

Sorry Folks.

I finished making 3 stoves and tested all three under ideal kitchen conditions under with plenty of air freshner befor my wife got home. Shhhmums the word.

used a 2 cup, 5.5" diameter aluminum pot The pot holds exactly 2 cups with 1/8 inch head at top. Inexpensive cub scout type from thrift store. Bail handle

1st test boiled 2 cups in 6 min. with lots of burn time left using 1/2 ounce denatured

Next 3 tests I used 13 ml and got the boil in 6 min.

Thats the first time I've boiled with 13ml of fuel. who'd a thunkit

This little stove is worth more testing and maybe tweeking.
