Wicking around on the porch
Wicking around on the porch
Due to my misunderstanding of how to construct a Zelph's Super Stove, I accidentally came up with this stove.
It's the fastest to boil (4:15 with 1.2q Imusa mug) of any of my stoves. And it is also the most efficient one I have with the Foster Pot.
The inner ring is the middle section of an aluminum spray bottle from The Container Store, (I used the top and bottom to make a side burner, so it was just sitting around).
The outer cup is the bottom of a large R134a can.
I used some 1/4 inch fiberglass rope that was sitting around my shop.
My only issue with it is the weight - I don't have an exact measurement but it is definitely the heaviest "ultralight" I have.
I tried to reproduce it in a lighter form with a Venom can and Glade Air Freshener can. Unfortunately, it burned too hot and became a spitter. I'm not sure if it was because the gap was too big, between the cans or the thinner aluminum just transferred too much heat back to the fuel.

Welcome to bplite
I just love it when someone accidentally comes up with a stove.
So cool when parts come together and voila!!! a stove is born
The stove that was a spitter may have had too much fuel
Heavy is in the eyes of the beholder
In the eyes of a minimalist
A Venom bottle and a Budlite bottle make a good pair to create a Super Stove. "Knotty" came up with that pair.
Now you have to boil water for 4 servings of Ramen Noodles to call it an official stove
Nice Avatar, reminds me of the Sinclair gasoline logo.

I think Sinclair was the green dinosaur - I thought is was Mobil or Esso that had the flying horse.
The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.

Re: Wicking around on the porch
The tallest building in Dallas, used to be the Magnolia Petroleum Building and had the famous neon red Pegasus perched a the top. When Magnolia merged with Mobil Oil, in the 50s, the Pegasus became the official symbol for Mobil Oil (my grandfather was a neon sign maker and I remember watching him work on a smaller version for the corner Mobil station). The building is still here, but it houses the Magnolia Hotel.
The city somewhat embraced the Pegasus and has used it as a symbol, here and there. One of those uses was on bicycle route signs, back in the 70s. The bicycling Pegasus looked just like my avatar, except that it was blue, in a white oval. I wanted it to look more like the Mobil symbol, so I just redrew it and colored it red with a blue frame.
That concludes our history lesson for today.

Re: Wicking around on the porch
I'm probably not going to switch over to a wood burner any time soon (never say never).
Most of Texas stays under a burn ban for about ten months out of the year.
But even more-so is that I love cooking with alcohol. I carried a Coleman F1 until about a year ago, when a buddy showed up at a campout with a Trangia stove. I made my first soda-can stove a few days later and was hooked.

The tiger was Exxon. Although, they are now part of the ExxonMobile conglomerate.
