found a cheap, stronger mesh for Heineken pot...

Postby hiflyer » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:39 pm

think the wife will notice?

I got tired of the 1/4" hardcloth failing all the time, and didn't want to spend $20 on a roll of 1/2"

a baking rack is like $6 at Superstore or walmart :)
seems to hold up well, but is a pain to cut! very thick and mine seems to be welded at every joint

I found out during my baking of the rings that the 1/4 inch harware cloth is not good for our needs. Bummer!!!!

If it's hard to cut, it'll be twice as hard to form into the small diameter of the heineken :o

Your wife will notice. You are in big trouble!!!!

It's not as bad as you'd think - you can snip it with cutters.

For bending it, I used a piece of downling to help me out.

But definitely way sturdier without bring overkill

I'm glad it worked for you as easy as it did.

I'm going to search out one of those at WM. Looks like alot of material to be had there. Nice find and thanks for letting us in on it.

Let us know what your wife said to you when she found out what you did to her rack

It was funny!!! It reminded me of the barbeque hamburger holder that I cut up to use as a pot stand. You know the ones that have two handles and open like a clam shell and holds four hamburger patties. When my wife found it cut up she was not pleased at all. We had quite a discussion about that pot stand  I bought two more to replace the one to smooth things over  Lesson learned, nothing ventured nothing gained. :)
