3 dollar stove from dollar store

Postby zelph » Tue May 24, 2016 11:42 pm

Was in a dollar store today, most all items were a dollar ;)

I looked for items to make an emergency stove. Found them. A California Scents type can that has an absorbing material inside for the alcohol to soak into. 1 small bottle of 91% Iso and a small pencil organizer to put the stove into and it acts like a pot support. It's about 3.5" tall.

Cost, $3.00 plus tax.

Im always in the dollar tree looking for new ideas for stuff , funny what you can find there if you just gander around.
I might pick up some of them pencil holders and incorporate it into pot stands for a couple of my stoves.
Looks like you could probably snip the bottom off and use it like A hardwear cloth pot stand...

Grabbed A few of them today and plan to play around with them A bit and see how much of it I can use and the length I wanna cut them at to possibly be able to use the bottom as well.
I am in the market for something like oink insulation or anything that can hold up for an insulation as well as something that will absorb the alcohol as I do not want to buy A whole roll of insulation to make A few stoves lol, maybe ill just tear a small hole in my wall :p

To see if a stove works well, just use cotton balls. Blow the stove out right after the water comes to a boil and the cotton will not burn. I've done it during tests.

Here is that pot stand modified and comes out to .48 ounces ,fits A fosters can up to A 12 cm imusa pot.
Also included are A couple stove designs I am working on,the same stove one with integrated pot stand one without.
The boil test came out to 6 1/2 minutes using 1/2 ounce of fuel.
Run time was around 10 minutes using same amount of fuel.

Looking great. The pot support should last a long time. Not bad for $1.00 :D The store I saw it in was called "Dollar Tree" here in Illinois. You have those stores where you are?

In the same store you can buy cans of soup to heat up on your $3 stove. 8-)

Yes exactly the dollar tree and these things should last forever lol.
Im actually gonna modify the other one some more and put a cut along the side so you can roll it up into A fosters pot.
I am hoping it does not ruin the integrity of it but if it does its only A buck :p
And here you can find all types of hiker food items from time to time in ours.
Im waiting for A magic shipment of mountain houses or something similar to show up on the shelves at random there one day lol.
Another good spot I have found is a store called big lots in our area for random good finds.
Not sure idf they are A national store or not.
Bought A set of for imusa 10 cm pots/mugs there for 6 bucks....

We used to have a big lots here and they had some really good deals.

I like the 10cm Imusa Mugs. They have a nice solid rolled rim.
