IMUSA pot for alcohol stove

Postby Mack » Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:58 pm

Has anyone been using the IMUSA pot with their stove? I recently picked a few up, and noticed that even after extensive cleaning of the pots interior, its still pitting a bit and leaving some weird hue to the water. Any thoughts? I hope that someone has used it without growing a third arm or something, cause at $2.76 for a 40oz cook pot that weighs in the 3 3/8 oz range its tought to beat for the money. In addition, I've noticed this on multiple pots of different sizes, so I don't believe it to be a limited issue. Thanks in advance, Mack

P.S. Hears a picture of one of my 40oz IMUSA pots that I've been tinkering with. I took off the very useless handle, and popriveted some high temp tolerant webbing on. Once I put some liquid electrical tape over the exposed rivets, I don't forsee any problems. The webbing hasn't melted yet with multiple uses...we'll see with time. The whole setup cost about $3.50 and without a lid weighs 1/4 oz more than my Titan Kettle without a lid. Tough to beat for the price. Any suggetions?

Mack,

That really is a great price.

Do You remember where You got it?

Did the origional handle get too hot?

I like the webbing idea!

Cheers!

Hey Allen,

I bought the pot from Wal-Mart. They also sell a 22oz version for like $1.70! So I bought a bunch of those too. Yeah the reason I took the handle off, is just because it gets way too untolerably hot for me, and it keeps that heat in as long as there is any type of hot water/beverage in the pot. I also decided to put the webbing on, so I could make a pot cozy for it, and shed some weight. Haven't made it yet, will probably do that in a few days. The pop rivets get pretty hot, so I think the liquid electrial tape will mitigate that. -Mack

They also have a "grease pot", which has a lid and sort of a spout.

Mack I haven't tried it out to see if the water gets yucky yet. Should be interesting to see.
