I have access to old fiberglass rolls of splinting material (for broken bones and sprains) and so I make two or three wraps around my pot, essentially ensuring that I will not burn my fingers. It adds a fraction of an ounce to each pot. My latest discovery is an ice cream tin under the name of "Sheer Bliss." It's about 6 inches tall and fits over my smaller alky stoves.
