I think It would have burned a hole in the pot, the problem is that you can't smother that stuff, in the ratio i mixed it, it was esstially slow burning rocket fuel, Because the KNO3 is a potent oxidizer, and the sugar provides the fuel, C6-H12-O6 it doesn't need oxygen to burn... we made another batch later the evening, the total weight was about 500g, 75% KNO3 and 25% C6-H12-O6... however, I used glucose powder, and I had blended the two components to the grain of icing sugar, to that, we added a teaspoon of aluminum powder as used by Etch-a-Sketch. As I lit the acetone, (fuse was finished) the Police patrol came by, and what looked like a faint candle flame, erupted into a volcano, sending a cloud of smoke across the street... When asked what we were doing, we told the Police that we had confiscated fire crackers from small children, and where simply disposing of it in a quiet manner... They gave us a thumbs up and a good thinking boys, followed by a stern warning about fire safety, Apparently we should have had a fire extinguisher on hand... :?
