I love this idea.
I imagine the top folded back down to double on itself and extend beyond the bottom of the bag making a water vessel, stand and wind screen in one. Heat sink be damned when it is all one pot! Punch holes in the bottom and the top of the outer "windscreen" layer close to the top of the roll (assuming a gap between the 2 layers). Now figure a way to hold a squeeze the top and bottom to open her up (like a flat change purse) and she should stand on her own with an open mouth.
Make sense?
I first though of the idea of rolling the top of a beer can pot down past the "pot" portion to serve as its own windscreen and stand, but realized you would never find a tall enough can. Then I thought bag. Then I found this old post. The idea struck me while reading Tonys old temperature reading tests on pot bottoms, where he discovered significant heat loss/heat sink effect from pot stands or anything in direct contact with the water vessel.

Cruiser, I'll look around tomorrow to see if I have any laying around in the garage or greenhouse.
Just had the idea of putting 2 together, fasten them at the top, fill both with water till they bulge in the middle. The bulge would make the two bottoms separate and allow the two bags to stand upright on their own. This way you could stand them up in the coals of a campfire. Nice thing about them.....they lay flat for storage.
