Oh gee!!!! got me thinking food processing :D I tried making venison jerky one year. During the seasoning of it I was tempted to cook some.....long story short...I cooked and ate it all, never got to the dried "Jerky" state. :mrgreen:

Meijer and KROGER pork retails are about the same. On the topic of bacon, I was watching Shark Tank last night and a guy had a bacon alarm clock he was trying to finance. Ten minutes before the alarm goes off, it starts heating up the bacon so that you wake to the smell of bacon. He was unable to secure any backing from the sharks but her is his alarm clock....

Cute design...the look of a piggy. The idea of waking up in your tent by the smell of bacon sounds pretty good to me. I guess sprinkling of bacon-bits in a mug will have to suffice 8-)

Busy busy busy....hey, just a thought. If a spiral cut ham is cured the same as bacon what would it be called....spiraled bacon? that made me drool...sorry :D

What is your opinion RR, can a spiraled cut leg of pig be cured to taste like bacon? Inquiring minds want to know :D

I would think so. It is so lean that it would taste more like Canadian bacon. Canadian bacon is smoked loins. I like thick lean bacon which can fry up more chewy than crisp and taste like ham. It is all smoked pork with the variables being the smoking process and different woods used to flavor the smoke. Then there is texture depending on leanness, thickness and how done the pork is cooked. It's all good! :hungry: :bbq: :dinner: :DB: :DP:

Thanks RR...

Bacon is not cooked as in "smoked ham" right? a smoked ham is prepared under "heated" conditions that cooks at the same time as it's smoked right :? When we prepare a smoked ham for dinner we bake it to heat the entire mass of meat right? not necessarily to "cook" it???? Mr. Heater mentioned "brine" in the process of making bacon. I'm confused :lol:

Now we're getting somewhere :D

So if we get a fully cooked ham and then take the same rub that was used to make the bacon and applied it to the ham in such a way as to make it taste like bacon and then put it in the fridge for the required time and then took it out and then baked till it got nice and hot/cooked as usual it should taste like big slabs of bacon?????

Or, would you have to buy a raw spiral ham, not cured, and then go through the same process as making bacon only keeping it in the brine longer to soak all the way through???

I followed the link that Mr.Heater gave and it is explained there how to do the bacon and the goodies used to make the rub........man! just thinking about is making me drool :dinner: :P

I wanna try my hand at making ham bacon :D I have to google Canadian bacon to see how it differs.
