worth buying!Outdoor Survival Skills/Larry Dean Olsen

Postby realityguy » Fri Jul 02, 2010 10:06 am

Found and read a good Survival book..Outdoor Survival Skills by Larry Dean Olsen..1967/1972(third printing,hardback)..worthwhile to add to your library if you can find it!There are chapters on everything from forming/making/shaping/chipping rock tools, firestarting(bows, flint and steel, hand ones, firebundles, etc),a good long library of edible plants and their uses with pics, trapping, tanning(with basic things at hand),weaving plants for rope,baskets,clothing,etc..,making bows and arrows and other weapons of mass destruction, and shelter..an incredible amount of information stuffed into the book! :o

I don't know if any Amazon has are hardback copies... :?: ..and I can't tell you if anything has been deleted/added with the newer copies...

The author taught a lot of survival classes in Utah, from idaho..his idea is "stoneage" survival..no shoes,no pocketknife,no water!Good book..probably the best survival one I've found!

I read that the Boy Scouts had him write the requirements for their Wilderness Survival merit badge.

He is also a co-founder of the ANASAZI Foundation for parent programs and for youth programs.

Impressive background, sounds trustworthy. I would think he was an Eagle Scout for sure. I'll have to get the book ;) Thanks for the heads-up to a good read :D

Any comments on the bushcraft books of Mors Kochanski?

I've not read any yet myself but I'd like to.
