Ol' Stumpjumper and i hit a yard sale saturday and they had an intresting external framed backpack. It looked like a military knock off of some sort and reminded me of a couple Kelty frames i own. Olive drab with 2 zip off side compartments. Waterproof internal coating with a long neck extension. The frame had a nice pad and support and the pack has a lot of lashing points.Heavy duty but nice. Stumpjumper asked if I wanted it and I told him he needed it more than me as he tore up his pack last year and gave me his Kelty that did not fit his short stature. So he offered the lady $3 and off we went with a new pack. It had a brand name of "narrona"? Never heard of it! Well, he sends me the following link....guess he got a pretty good deal    Maybe I could have used one more pack

Goodies..Yeah bad day for me..a slide projector a guy has commisioned me to find for him worth $75 to me for $8...a tornado tube connector like IR has(50 cents),a smaller Lowe Alpine backpack(get the wife off my back!..at least HER things! )for $4..a huge White Stag coated nylon tarp in Marina Blue for $5...
The worst bummer of the day was finding a long heddle for a large weaving loom..for $2..I found out the weaving loom has been floating around the furniture area of the thrift store for a couple weeks until they finally threw it out...probably because it was minus the heddle..From Germany dated 1916...AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!That could have been maybe a $500 find! How in heck did I miss that???????Yes..I bought the heddle...someone maybe looking for that "$100" part on craigs...
A friend saw it and his lady friend told him "Nobody weaves anymore..it's not worth anything!"..so he left it...I need to have a chat with her..with a 2x4!... I can't be too mean to her though..she did grab me an unused $2 SMC Alpine Ice Axe the other day .."Here..maybe you can use this!"..

Well the top is supposed to lift up and swing off the top of the glass against the spring.I had to bend the crap out of the bail to move upward at all, after unscrewing it..but it does clear the glass..just has to be reshaped better..but it works!
4" tall/3-1/4" across...about 3oz or less..
Quality and function wasn't their no. 1 concern...Tempered glass? Yeah right,I really doubt it!Hey..at 75 cents at a thrft store the price was right! I can probably pack it in a plastic jar for protection..It has real glass! :o :DB:

I've run across some simple ideas for tealight candle lanterns with glass. Some have a small metal swing looking setup with something that hangs on the top edge of the glass and at the bottom is a platform for a tealight candle..something very easy to construct. The outer "glass" can as simple as a plastic jar(with the lid off the top),or even a shot glass!
This is kind of interesting having a spring loaded top that can retract off the glass for replacing or lighting the candle inside.
I put up a picture to give people some simple ideas for making your own..out of any small glass you can find using the same principles.Just find a metal cup for the top and another the size of the bottom..a wire bail spring loaded in between.A double bail(all 4 corners instead of only two sides) would protect the glass but it would have to swing out of the way to open the lantern. The "tealight swing" inside could be as simple as the inner wire being pushed into the side of the tealight metal can and hanging out some holes in the top can(wedding favor tin?).Hmm... :geek:

She rarely goes on day hikes even any more..but likes walking around the neighborhood.(Go figure???)..and shopping malls.However..she does like hiking on and off airplanes to vegas, china, hawaii, pennsylvania, los angeles or new york to see relatives...and camping in the "hilton"...wherever she is...Why I'm going alone around here.
