Speaking of pumpkin photos

Postby Mags » Tue Oct 09, 2007 1:23 pm

Every year, my friends and I do a "Ridiculous Pumpkin Haul". Here is the description from an upcoming trip:

What: Ridiculous Pumpkin Haul VI: To The Bat Cave!
When: Thursday 10/25 6:30 PM
Where: Mallory Cave
Contact: Paul Mags -
Details: An ongoing tradition of sorts started by Mr. Fearing in 2001.

Last year it did not happen (I was finishing up a little jaunt), this year we are bringing it back!

What is a RPH? Simple: Take one pumpkin, lug it up to a high point, carve said pumpkin, light up pumpkin on summit of local peak. Do scary black magic rituals
and scare unsuspecting hikers out at night. (OK..we usually drink
hot chocolate and eat cookies...which can be magical, right?)

This year, it is going to be extra awesome because
a) It will be on a Full Moon!
b) It will be at a bat cave!

Mallory cave is open in early October. A full moon a few days before Halloween, jack o' lanterns and a bat cave. How cool is that?

Info on Mallory Cave:
http://www.totalboulder.com/resources/66.html (The "climb" is really an easy, non-technical scramble)

Bring warm clothes, a head lamp, carving tools, a candle and a large, orange gourd.

A pic from a previous RPH:

The full moon and bat cave is really a super awesome combination.

The guts of the pumpkins can be used on the unsuspecting hikers also. Make them think its bat poop
