Gems of the Forest

We took a loop hike from Elkmont to Clingmans Dome and back this past spring. Heading north on the AT, we ran across this large gem stone. I bet the indians could have made alot of tools and points from this puppy. ;)

picture is deceiving---the apparent white coating is actually the white quartz crystals.
