Bird Banding

Postby zelph » Fri Oct 28, 2011 1:08 am

I took some time out from my camping to visit a nearby bird banding station. I have the oportunity to be with the person that does the actual catching of the raptors as it takes place. Watch how he controls the captive atractor pidgeon by lines connected to it from a far distance. Watch the banding procedure and the release. Hope to get good videos of it when I go.

A successful morning. Had to leave to get back home to be with my visiting daughter and grandchildren.

This is the first of a few videos that will show the howto's of catching raptors.

Okay.."this video is unavailable"...Does that mean you catch them when they'll be sitting around and waiting for the video? :o

Youtube really took a long time to process this video and don't know why. :?

I stayed until they caught one and then left to return home to be with my visiting daughter and grandchildren.

I have videos to process that shows the entire operation. How they put a leather jacket on the pidgeon lure/attractor/bait. I got the whole nine yards on video. I was invited to return next Sunday. They do the banding thing until the end of November. Todays experience made my day/year :D

Yes, I thought he was going to be missing facial parts pretty quick. I eventually was able to hold the hawk in my hand so they get a photo shot of me and the guy that caught it. He put a band on it prior to the photo session just incase I were to release it
