Have any of you had the need to carry a personal protection device of any kind?

Wow a 22 zip gun.zelph wrote:Most of the areas I spend time are remote and on private property that is bordered by public State and National forests. Access being obtained through working with the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources and a private Institute devoted to natural land areas. The areas are known to have wild dog packs that form over a periode of years and usually become a menace to populated areas. Once that happens the packs are then searched out and eliminated. I've never come across a pack but have encountered singular homless looking dogs that have given me some concern. I started carrying a small, lightweight personnal protection device in the form of a pen size tear gas gun(pen gun) The catridges are easilly modified to suite my needs. I've done my share of hunting and have had experience in reloading my own shotgun and rifle shells. This practice of modifying is not recommended nor do I endorse it.

Mags wrote:Hmm...depending on what kind of health class you took in high school "personal protection" can be construed a few different ways... Ahem.
Gear Freaks and exhibitionists is what they call them.samh wrote:Closest I come to personal protection is a 12 oz. container of bear spray that comes with me on some trips. I've seen folks packing .357 and .44 sidearms up trails before but I honestly don't know why. A can of bear spray is going to deter an animal just as well as a bullet and you won't have to go to court and plead self defense after you use it on a griz.
