interesting, i'm not saying that they are wrong but i don't really trust wikipedia. however, i did think that the claim of it being the only place in the world with them was a little hard to swallow.

Yeah, I don't trust Wikipedia too much either but there are some other sites I've looked at that say white squirrels are in a few spots.

Here is an interesting article on albino squirrels. I grew up in Illinois and thought Olney was the only place they grew in any significant numbers:

I've seen a few White Skunks around here.
I don't know how rare they are elsewhere.

Cheers!

Never heard of such a grouping of albinos. I thought they were one in a million thing and was not a gene thing.

Zelph, I can ask my wife (she's a research biologist) but I think albinos are kind of both a million in one thing and a gene thing. Usually a good mix of genes will prevent it happening too often but if the gene pool is limited it probably happens more. Once there is a large population it's probably easier to keep going.

Somebody probably has a lab down in their basement raising them and letting them loose in the wee hours of the morning

A few years ago an albino turkey made it's shelter along my fence line. 2 days later it was gone.

Probably the neighbors tame pet turkey that saw you outside testing one of your woodburning stoves and decided not to stick around to see what was on the menu. ;)

I wonder if albinism affects the taste of the meat.
