Leaving the Salt Mine

Looks like I was just laid off with an ~3 month severance package from my employer.

Being good hiker trash, I need to get a longish hike in. I am thinking the Benton Mackaye Trail.

My only regret? Why couldn't this happen in March! I could do the Arizona Trail! :)

Hey, Congrats!!

Nothing like a nice severance to fund a hike :)

There should be something going on in SOCAL that you can get an early start on. :D It's just a hop skip and a jump over the mtns ;)

Nice of your employer to give you a severance pkg. We wish you well on your new adventure. ;)

Jobs come and go, but the memory of a hike stays forever.

Enjoy.

I should be on the BMT next week! I am pretty excited. It has been a long time since I have been in the Southern Appalachians. And, for an Eastern trail, the BMT is pretty isolated.

All in all, should be a great journey!

Pack your cold weather gear, Mags. I've read that parts of that trail are hard to distinguish. Have a great time and keep us posted !

Any advice to others that may be experiencing the same situation.

While your employed, do you set aside x amount of funds for an extended hike in case of layoff?

How does one plan for such a situation like yours?

How can we not go back to giving 100 percent of our efforts to find another job?

Do we make hiking our main goal in life until the time comes to settle down.
