Items Found Along The Trails

Post by zelph » Fri Oct 12, 2007 10:03 am

Once in a while I come across an interesting item found along side the trails. I usually pick it up and take it with if it's not too big :)

Some of the stuff I save to show to others and some just to amuse myself at times. I wonder who or what may have caused these items to be in a place I thought to be not well traveled. Let us know what you have found while on your wanderings.

I'll start out by showing a skull, I suspect it to be a young dear.

I always seem to find Nalgene bottles along the trail, too!

My most interesting find was an axe made of granite stone. It was found on a trail along side of a small creek about a mile from where I live. I was at this location to photograph some rare plants. What a treat to find and photograph this rare artifact. A professor of anthropology identified it to be between 3,000 and 5,000 years old. The identifying age factor was the pecked grove went around the entire midsection of the axe. In later years the groove only went 3/4's of the stones girth. When I find the photos taken on the trail I'll post them also. For now here are recent indoor photos.

Mags, that skull looks like the mama of the one I found. :) I've not found any nalgene type bottles. One or two margarin bowls.

The only Nalgene I've ever found was at Shaw's. I don't take it on the trail--it's too heavy--but I use it at home a lot. :)

re: Nalgene bottles

Well, I usually find them on the local trails. I have yet to find one on a thru-hike.

Just as well..I would not want to carry the darn thing. :)
