Some have found these to be a good place to draw figures onto while they are in this stage of growth. The creamy, soft, undersurface is easily inscribed with a pencil,knife or large thorn from the Black Locust tree. Later, the underside dries up and becomes hardened and white in color. Any lines drawn will become darkened and permanent. Have any of you left your name on one of these? I have.

Some say it's good for firemaking tinder. I have not found it to be.
