The video was interesting. I'm sure the guy found out that the aluminum soon melted from his hot flames. Soon meaning within a few burns to heat 2 cups of water in a canteen cup. The cups are super strong and are not the best heat conductors.
I tried what he did, cept I used plain 'ol 18ga mild sheet. Works pretty good. As for the stainless steel canteen cup.. Its not so bad. I like it alot more then then aluminum version.

And the cups are so inexpensive on ebay. I would venture to say they are stronger than titanium pot/mugs. Yeah, they weigh a little more  I'd rather drink out of the SS than the aluminum one. I'm finicky

Yes, good choice the light gauge steel. Have you tried Weber charcoal lighter cubes?

I haven't tried the lighter cubes. I really like the coghlans "firepaste". all you need is a tiny little dab of it to start a fire, even in the wet.

I have found that wet wood needs many many dabs of paste to geter going. :P

I'm sold on Weber charcoal starters as my goto campfire starter. Realityguy led me to them and I've been hooked ever since. :o

I hope weber doesn't discover our use of the cubes. The price is sure to go up :)
