Supposedly the A/ 1940 was the first 1/2year they manufactured them in the US..I imagine they didn't want them too shiny during the war..probably see the things for miles when they were fired up..!

Some guy came by and bought the new in the box '81 brown "JC Penny's Coleman #275" I had for $60..and I noticed the crappy looking burner sitting there when I pulled out 3 other small lanterns he might have been interested in "while he was here"...
I had some time and started polishing the 500..You know how that goes...
