My introduction!

Post by Mags » Mon Sep 24, 2007 9:58 pm

It is only fair if I introduce myself if I asked everyone else to do it, too. :D

Mags is shortened form of my last name (Magnanti) and serves not only as a trailname but what people also call me off-trail as well. Since the outdoors is such a passion for me, having a nickname for the trail and "real life" serves me well.

Many of you know me from Whiteblaze, the PCT-L, CDT-L, AT-L and Trailforums. You can say I've been active in the online hiking circles for a while!

My path to enLIGHTenment (groan!) was easy. I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 1998 . After humping a 50lb pack for nearly 2200 miles, I did not want to ever do that again!!!!!

In addition to the Appalachian Trail, I have done the Long Trail (1997 and 1999), the Pacific Crest Trail (2002), the Colorado Trail (2004) and the Continental Divide Trail (2006). I have also done a fair amount of hiking, backpacking, backcountry skiing and trail running all over Colorado, New England, Utah and Wyoming. What can I say, I love the outdoors! :D

Over the years, I've fine tuned and tweaked my gear so that my base pack weight is just under 10 lbs.

For me, lightweight backpacking is not just about the gear. It is a philosophy. If you take less gear, there is less between you and nature.
You are less encumbered by "stuff". Backpacking is about simplicity. With lightweight gear, backpacking can be simple again. And with that simplicity, backpacking is no longer a burden to endure but a way to enjoy the wilderness.

So that's me.

Hope to see more you!
