Heineken Barrel Design discontinued?????

Always good to have some helpful tips when making stove.
Where to get materials cheap, what tool is best.
How to do a specific task. Anything that will help.

Heineken Barrel Design discontinued?????

Post by zelph » Mon Apr 25, 2011 10:08 pm

I got a glimpse of a thread somewhere that gave me the impression that the barrel design has been discontinued.

Anyone hear the same?

I'll do a google and see what i find.

Maybe :o

Google came up with this:

Penny Alcohol Backpacking Stove

Sad News:

Starting in March 2011 the Heineken Company changed the design of their original keg-shaped aluminum can to a standard straight wall can. The design of the Original Penny Stove requires the spacial shapes offered by that can. So, this means that you and I will no longer be able to build Original Penny Stove.

There's a convenience store, a mile from my house with a shelf full of the Heiny barrel cans. I guess I better go scoop them up. (Sorry to all the Penny-haters, but I love my Penny Stove.) :)

"Ultralight Hiker Sues Heinekin,Cooked Lining Causes Cancer"... ..You never know...No FDA tests have ever been done for that...That's not the intended purpose or use for the can...Extreme heat factors could change its properties...

I wonder if this includes the 24oz. single can that is used as cookpots?

I talked with the Heiniken sales rep today and the keg is disco'd in all sizes. No, not because backpackers were using them for cookpots but because of the wide profile. They can get more on the shelf with a taller slimmer can....Grrrrr :(
