Car camping johnny

Post by Ridgerunner » Sun Oct 31, 2010 10:19 am

When we hunt the National Forest in OH we always take a DIY privy with us. I took a 6 gal camo bucket that dog food came in and cut the bottom out. I then took the lid and cut the entire top off leaving just the snap-on outer ring which I cement to the bottom of a toilet seat(painted camo of course). Very lightweight and transportable. We usually use a black plastic liner inside the can and snap the seat on to hold it in place. The bottom is cut out of the liner and goes into a predug hole. We set the bucket on a homemade platform with a boyscout tarp over the unit. Semi-privacy in the woods and out of the elements ;)Downwind from our tent location

Great Idea RR. Do they still sell dog food in the 6 gal buckets? I tried to find a 6 gal. one last week and had to settle for a 5. When car camping I use a 6 gal with commercial closing lid along with "Double Doody"" bucket liners.

I don't think they do Zelph. It was a special purchase at a feed store. 5gallon buckets will work just as well. ;)

You're right. 6 gallon is perfect. I'm sure there are still some out there for some application. ;)

I take it the 6 gallon ones come with a higher handicap seat for old farts?

I'll have to try the local John Deere, see if they have these:
