Torque wrench turned utility knife

Postby BubbleHead » Thu Dec 22, 2011 12:34 pm

I came into possession of this piece of metal in an interesting way...

It started its life as a torque wrench, or rather part of a torque wrench. At some point the wrench broke and one of the Machinists Mates (mechanic types) in my crew had some free time on his hands, and after what must have been quite some time he filed it down to nearly what it is now.
Once he got bored with it he gave it to me, and I had an idea...

Example, torque wrench.

I haven't wrapped the handle yet, but I spent some time putting a bevel and edge on the blade using metal files and a Dremel tool. It holds an edge decently but I plan to use it as a backup and for tasks I wouldn't use an expensive knife for.
I also filed some cutouts for wrapping the handle with paracord and drilled a hole to secure said cord with a knot. I'll put another picture up when I wrap the handle.

Not a bad rebirth for a throwaway hunk of steel!

It certainly is starting to look like a knife. I can't imagine the flat steel coming out of a tourque wrench :? I must be an old fashioned tourquer
