Fire Rod made from lighter flints

Postby Allen » Thu Apr 17, 2008 2:31 am

I made this Fire Rod from lighter flints, a piece of wood dowel, Elmer's glue, and a piece of hacksaw blade
for the scraper. I tested it on cotton balls and it works great!

That is great. Looks like a super project for younger boy scouts.

Good idea Allen. Let us know about the durability of the Elmers glue holding the flints in place especially with all the joints. I agree, nice project for the cub/boy scouts. ;)

Thanks Guys! So far, so good, on the glue. I should have used a short pencil, instead of the dowel. i like multitaskers.
Cheers!

Wouldn't it be great if they had a pencil made with lead on one end and ferrocerium on the other. You would be able to shave off some of the cedar wood down to the ferro rod and strike off some sparks into the shavings. cool pencil to have in your emegency kit.
