Curly Sticks

Postby Ridgerunner » Fri May 23, 2008 10:49 pm

When we go turkey hunting, we have the afternoon to "hang out" as hunting time ends at noon in Ohio. Alot of times we fish, mushroom hunt, scout and hike, or just nap out ! ;) One thing we occasionally do is hunt for curly sticks. We are looking for an area of sapplings that have alot of vines growing in the area. The vines grow around the sappling, making some nice stock for curly sticks. we wil sometimes spend rainy afternoons sitting around, whittling away on a curly stick. I have made them for kids and adults and like to take one with me when I go "Shrooming" or on day hikes at the local parks. Here is a pic of what I am referring to ;) :

The trees vary. I'm not sure what the viney plant is(definitely not poison ivy)

Well I'll be fit to be twisted!!!! I'll have to keep my eyes open from now on for one of those. I've never noticed one in the wild

Nice collection you've got there. :D
