Re: Fender Skirts
I cut the whiskers off the cat... Really.
My brother, my mom and dad had a hard time not laughing out loud.
Dad was trying to tell me what I did was wrong. Of course, I knew it by then! Dad could only say, "The cat use their whiskers to know how big an opening they can fit through". and, many glances exchanged. "Now, I have to keep the cat indoors. I have to look after the cat".
I had to sit through a cub scouts meeting because my mom was a den mother.
They had "crystal radio kits".
They were bored. I wanted a "crystal radio kit".
Mom made me sit at the wall, far away from the "kit projects".
I heard that "cat whiskers" were essential to tuning in a radio signal.
I cut the whiskers off the cat, thinking the thickness, the length, and the springiness might make the difference.
There was an amateur radio program on the radio that mentioned "my story". They had picked it up at QRZ.com.

Re: Fender Skirts
Is that now considered "urban legend" ?"The cat use their whiskers to know how big an opening they can fit through".
Funny how we read things into our minds

Connie,That one is a "classic"
Here kitty, kitty, let me see your nice whiskers, snip, snip

That's one for the books, thanks Connie

Re: Fender Skirts
I don't think that is an "urban legend".
The cat got stuck between the fence and the garage.
I was a little girl, but I remember it all very well.

Not urban legend

What Purpose Do Cat Whiskers Serve?
Whiskers are an important part of a cat's anatomy. They are course and wiry, and are found on their cheeks and eye brows. Cat's lose an occasional whisker
much like we lose eye lashes, but they are not shed in the same manner as their fur. The roots of each whisker have lots of nerve endings, and can feel
differences in air pressure. Cats use their whiskers in the dark during the hunt to help them locate objects and prey. They also help them evaluate small
openings. Contrary to popular belief, their whiskers will grow back if they are cut off, but it may handicap their effectiveness in the dark.
