A wood fire should be started with good tinder and dry twigs. We talked about "Fat wood" in another thread but I could not find it fast enough so I started a thread here. a friend of mine gave me a boat load of 4x4's that were of high resin content. He could not burn them in his wood burning stove at home(they burn too dirty) so he sent them over my way. I used a chain saw to cut them into short lengths and an axe to split them into fire starting pieces. Recently I used some to start my top lit Atomic stove tests. The video shows how dense and brittle the resin is.
