Ammo Box Wood Stoves

Post by zelph » Tue Nov 09, 2010 9:11 am

I have not come across any ammo boxes in thrift stores but the closest army/navy store should have them. They make heavy duty wood burners. Here is one link to show some info on their construction:

I have a couple ammo cases. One is filled with heavyduty chain for towing. I think the other is filled with tree steps. The key word on the boxes Zelph, is HEAVYduty. I ran across a bunch at a yard sale this summer and the guy was wanting $20 ea. I doubt if he sold many. I had seen a similar link to converting them to tent stoves and was leaning that way for the contest but not at $20. thus I went with the Keg Stove. ;)

Besides..it's easier to go through a keg of beer than a whole box of ammo you haven't got the weapon for.. ;)

See, neither one of you thrifters saw any in the thrift stores. Hard to come by cheap ;)

Remember Connie saying she went to a "Stand Down" for vets. There is one in my home town and I'm going to take a look see what it's all about.

Take time out and hug a veteran..............Connie, where are you? :D

Thank you very much all you veterans out there. Our country is still standing tall ;)

I've seen the ammo boxes and have seen the posts and videos..didn't care for them as "stoves"..I saw no need to buy them.

You could always become an evil geocacher and replace all the ammo cans out there with tupperware

All the ones I've located are well hidden and not an eyesore or could be considered littering. Get rid of hikers that do all the littering first :o I've read that AT has many toilette paper rosettes along the trail that are an eyesore. :o Some don't believe in cat holes or have a bad aim and don't bother to correct the problem

I guess someone oughta run through there with several cans of colored spray paint and "tag" them to look like wildflowers... :o ..Any volunteers?
