Rumor has it that the cans are easier to carry out empty.

Was it Winiarski that came from sweden? Did the "small" fire thing in the woods so as not to be noticed by the "bad guys"

BTW, an alcohol stove fire is a good way not to be noticed, if compared to a petrol based fire. Especially if combusion is complete. I can detect the odor, readily, if the combustion is inefficient.

Burning wood from a fruit tree, like cherry,in a small cooking fire produces practically no smoke. If wet, however, any wood will produce "white smoke" from the moisture.

I think those hexamine tablets burned in the military-style canteen cup and cooker were to not be noticed, but burning hexamine tablets have a strong odor.

Burning vertical stacked twigs is something everyone here needs to try. Very little smoke is produced. You gotta try it, one way or another.

There is bear in the woods, not beer. soon we'll be hearing of DIY "Beer Bags" and how high to hang them or how deep to submerge in the creeks

Hey Zelph,

You will have to visit us here in NY sometime for a hammock trip. There is indeed BEER in them thar hills. You just have to know where to "dig". Ordin is right, the empty cans are definitely easier to remove.
